"Brass Alchemy"

Part of the UW-Madison School of Music’s “Celebrate Brass!” Festival.

The Brass Alchemy concert begins with Quidditch, a dazzling fanfare composed by John Williams to depict the excitement of a Quidditch match in the Harry Potter film series. The program continues with the mesmerizing hushed tones of Morton Lauridsens renowned choral work, Magnum Mysterium. Next, Spanish composer Juan Colomer‘s Fierabrass, is a musical representation of the story of Don Quixote with its humor, pathos, and triumphs. It showcases the power and the expressivity of all of the instruments in the brass family. The captivating and poignant melody, Gabriel’s Oboe, written by Italian film composerEnnio Morricone for the film The Mission, will feature the phenomenal talent of Norwegian guest tubistØystein Baadsvik.
